WAEC Is Gearing Up For A Computer-based WASSCE For Private Candidates In 2024.

WAEC is gearing up for a computer-based WASSCE for private candidates in 2024. This is in line with global practices. WAEC, in a statement, shared plans to switch from paper tests to computer-based exams. The first one in February 2024 will have computer-based objective questions and a mix of computer and paper for essays and practical papers.

WAEC has been making positive changes, like digital certificates for quick result access and 'WAEC Verify' for checking candidate information. The shift to computer-based exams aims to improve the assessment process.

The exam will happen in cities, and candidates with special needs are considered. Registration starts on December 18, 2023. To help candidates adjust, a Mock Examination is planned for February 2024. WAEC encourages everyone to sharpen their computer skills, envisioning a future where all their exams will be computer-based.

The West African Examinations Council has concluded plans to migrate its West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Tests to Computer Based Examinations.

A statement by the Council on Monday explained that the innovation would commence with WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 First Series.

The exam will be held in February 2024.

It read, “In line with global best practices, the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council wishes to inform the general public, and all its stakeholders, that it has concluded plans to migrate its WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Test to Computer Based Examination.

“The innovation will commence with WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2024 – First Series, which is slated to hold in February 2024. While the Objective Tests will be fully Computer Based, the Essay and Test of Practical papers will be hybrid, in which the examination questions will be delivered on screen and candidates required to write answers on the answer booklets given to them.”

It stated that the examination would be conducted in urban centres/cities and candidates with special needs had been factored into the plan.

WAEC revealed that registration for the examination would commence on Monday, December 18, 2023.

Also, in order to enable candidates to familiarise themselves with the new examination platform, WAEC said it had made arrangements for a Mock Examination to be conducted in February 2024, before the examination commences.

It added that it was the vision of the Council that in the near future, all its examinations will be delivered via the computer.

The statement read, “To this end, the Council implores all prospective candidates to hone their computer skills and be fully prepared to embrace this innovation.”
