BREAKING: NLC, TUC Suspend Strike Over Minimum Wage, Details Emerge


The organised labour has suspended its nationwide strike after reaching an agreement with the federal government TUC president, Festus Osifo, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday and noted that the decision was to allow uninterrupted meetings with the tripartite committee on minimum wage Legit.ng reported that the NLC and the TUC had embarked on the strike after negotiations with the government on a new national minimum wage met a brick wall.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have suspended the ongoing nationwide strike after one day of industrial action following the federal government's proposed N60,000 minimum wage offer. 

Labour arrived at this decision on Tuesday after a joint extraordinary national executive council meeting of the unions in Abuja, The Nigerian Tribune reported. A communique will be issued shortly, the labour chief said, Channels TV reported. Both unions crippled economic and government activities on Monday, June 4, to register their grievances over the hike in electricity tariff and lack of consensus on a new minimum wage. 

The development ground activities in other critical sectors of the economy with schools, businesses, hospitals, and airports shut. The national grid was also shut down, throwing the nation into darkness.
